Why the Droid could steal my Heart
… or did it do that already?

I’ve been reading those Previews extremely close. Really close. Both, Engadget and Boy Genius Report had their Hands on it and they were impressed. I spend a Lot of Time reading on both of their Sites and would say that they are reliable, although i never had Contact or met them in Person. I’m relatively new to Android, been using my HTC Hero now for approx. 5 Months and absolutely loving a) the Device and b) HTC Sense. I had the Opportunity to trial a G1 before from T-Mobile Austria, which led me to finally abandon Nokia and join the Terminators.. i mean Androids. Seeing the Hero in Action impressed me that much that i went for it, and not only changed Provider but also Mobile Phone Brand and OS in that Course. But there is one Thing i’m really missing on the Hero: The Slide Out Keyboard! I felt that still to date, the Slide-Out QWERTY on the G1 is one of the Best i have ever used, making typing such a Breathe for me .. and then came the Droid.. I feel like the Droid could make me switch again! Why? – Read on…
Slide-Out full QWERTY Keypad: Yes, this could be a Key Part for me. It may not look as usable as the G1 was, in fact i doubt it is and some of the Engadget Guys already expressed their Feelings against it, but, to be honest, i have quite small Fingers/Thumbs and therefore i COULD get along with it quite well. Why they made two blank Keys instead of going with a bigger Space Key? I have no Idea, looks funny/strange/stupid/hilarious as well. BGR also noted that there are Lots of Metal Parts on the Droid, which is also a good Thing in my humble Opinion. The brown Sugar-coloured D-Pad looks also pretty usable and is generally a good Thing, i experienced on the N97, i immediately start using a D-Pad when one’s there.
Screen: Wow.. okay, i’m used to both a Nokia HR Screen (640×360 Pix) and of course my Hero Screen (480×320), but wow.. 3,7″, 854 x 480 Pixels is something i wanna have. Yes, please! I can only imagine how great a Movie must look on a Screen like this, let alone Internet Browsing or generally watching Pictures. A big Thing i hated about the Nokia Screens was the Fact that they were resistive Ones. Rockin’ a HTC Hero means i’m enjoying the great Feeling of a capacitive Ones, and i don’t wanna miss that anymore.. Multi-Touch is not supported on the Droid yet, but from what I’ve read it will be on the Euro Release of the Droid, called Milestone! I’ve also read that the Screen is turning off automatically if you get a Call and put the Phone to your Ear. Great Stuff there, and yes, i know Nokia had this from Day 1.
Android 2.0: I know i’ll be getting HTC Sense with 2.0 Greatness sooner or later on my Hero, but wow, looking through all the Screenshots that BGR provided, made me drool all over. The Screens gave us a good Impression of what we can expect of Android in the near Future, and i’m proud to say, that those Guys are on a Roll. One can only imagine how great this must look with the Sense UI on it. Google has once again worked hard on their OS and gave us Facebook implented in the Contacts App, brand new Google Maps Version and much more. I won’t go much more into Detail here – just check Engadget and BGR for more.
… i believe i’d have a lot more to say about the Droid/Milestone and i’m sure not only good Things too, but can’t really do any good Judgement until i have one in my Hands to play with. I won’t tag this as the Jesus Phone, but it damn sure looks nice to me. Read my Mail Motorola, here’s one Austrian Guy that wants to multi-touch this one!
