I have read Micky’s N97 Battery Tests on Nokiausers prior to my own Tests and was amazed by the Power those Beasts were pumping out. Since the Android OS is not exactly a very power-saving OS, the stock 1350 mAh Battery died away pretty quick under my daily Conditions. I just had to do something about it and Mugen seemed like a very good Option for it. I tried and used 3rd party Batteries in the Past, but almost never got a reliable Solution, most of them were even less powerfull than the original One. So, did Mugen delivered what we are waiting for?

If you have a look at Mugen’s HTC Hero Line-up, they currently have 2 different Batteries available:

Mugen Power 1550mAh Extended Replacement Battery: a standard-sized, stronger Battery, that fits in the Hero without the Need of an additional Backdoor

Mugen Power 3200mAh Extended Replacement Battery For HTC Hero (GSM) with Battery Door: the king-kong sized Replacement, which is powerfull, but needs a separated, much thicker backdoor. the problem here is, that the device looses it’s slickness, becoming a brick in your hand.

Part 1 of my Battery Test was performed in daily Usage, in the Conditions i normally use my Phones in. I’ll going to perform some more Tests under more power-consuming Conditions soon – in the Meantime, here’s the Settings i’m using in daily Life:

3G: off, phone only on EDGE, but permanently online

Bluetooth: on

WLAN: used whenever available – roughly 35-40%

Mail & Twitter checks: every 5 minutes

SMS messages: approx. 50-70 everyday

Calls: approx. 2h every day

Internet Surfing: around 1-2 h everyday

Active Playtime with the Phone (Device not in standby): 50%

some occasional App Tests, Camera Shots and seldom some MP3s

So, without further ado, here’s the Results of the first Test – all from full Charge until the Phones gave me the last 5% Battery Warning:

HTC Stock Battery 1350 mAh. – 12 hrs. 15 minutes: As mentioned a few Times already, i doesn’t get much more than a typical Workday from the standard Battery. I get up at 6 o clock, working from 7 till 5, and usually about an hour later, i have to put the Hero on the Charger again.

Mugen Power 1550mAh Extended Replacement Battery – 15h 5 minutes: almost 3 more Hours for the standard-sized replacement Mugen battery. this is pretty much what i was expecting for a battery with only 200 more mAh, yet it’s a bit more power for a reasonable price of just € 20,66 and the HTC backcover perfectly fitting!

Mugen Power 3200mAh Extended Replacement Battery with Battery Door – 37h 20 min: Yes, you read right, 37 HOURS with this Beast. The big 3200 mAh-powered Battery get’s you through 1 1/2 days on the same condition as the other Batteries, 3 times longer than the others. But, here’s where you have to decide: More Power and a thicker Phone or less Power and go with the slick, stylish Hero Layout? It’s up to you – i’ve prepared some Comparison Pictures for you, so you can see how much thicker your Phone gets with the Mugen Battery Door! The 3200 mAh Battery is currently available for only € 55,14!

I haven’t done the heavy Test yet, but so far i can say that Mugen has absolutely delivered the Power they have promised, which definitely is a blessing to all of us under-powered Phone Users, for reasonable Costs!

After some Rumors, here’s now the official Confirmation that Mugen Power Batteries, the ONLY 3rd party battery manufacturer i trust, will be bringing lots of needed Power to Nokia’s true Flagship in my humble Opinion, the Nokia N900! During my Time with the N900, Battery life has always been an Issue, because seriously Nokia, 12 hours on medium Usage on a 500+ Euro Phone is not only annoying, its plain ridiculous! We are in 2010, you know!?

Anyways, Friend of the Site Micky Aldridge on Nokiausers.net has already tested the extended Battery Options for the N97 and the results were amazing to say the least. I’m also in testing mode, working the 2 Batteries on my HTC Hero and so far i must say, Mugen does not fail to deliver!

“Mugen Power is working on Extended Battery for N900 and will be releasing a 2300-2400mAh battery in February 2010. You can use following rss feed to be updated when the battery is available: N900 RSS.” – as stated on their Website! This is great News for every N900 User and i’m 100% sure you will not be sorry to spend a few Bucks on a great Battery!

I’m really happy to announce, that i will expect some very interesting – and i’m sure extremely helpfull in daily Life Usage for my beloved HTC Hero! Asian 3rd Party Battery Supplier Mugen Power Batteries has agreed in sending me both Versions of their very succesfully selling Replacement Batteries, to put it through their Paces and perform some Tests on it. Now i know what some of you might think immediately: Yes, we had 3rd Party Batteries before and most of them plain and simple, sucked! I had some before and i can tell from experience that more mAh’s does not neccessarily mean more Power!

With Mugen Batteries it’s different, because Mugen stay true to what they’re saying. Friend of Site Micky, from the highly recommended Nokiausers.net has recently put the same Test on his Nokia N97, using both the 1800 mAh Extended Battery plus the bigger 3600 mAh Battery, which comes with a separated Backdoor, as your Device can’t fit it in with the default Backdoor! I won’t spoil the Results here – if you want to check out how those 2 Beasts performed against the N97′s 1500 mAh default one, check out Nokia N97 Mugen Extended Batteries – Conclusion over at Nokiausers.net!

So whats going down here in the upcoming Days/Weeks?

My Standard 1350 mAh Hero Battery – not too impressive honestly. With constant online Times, using Mails, Twidroid, often checking Facebook and Newsrob etc, i don’t get much more than 10-12 Hours. And this is with Bluetooth, 3G and Auto Screen Rotation being switched off, just for the Record. This Battery will go head-to-head against:

The Mugen Power 1550mAh Extended Replacement Battery: 200 mAh doesn’t sound too much extra Power, but if you check out Micky’s Article again, you can see what 300 more mAh can achieve: Nearly DOUBLE as much Go-Time on light/medium Usage and almost 3 times better Performance on heavy Usage. Not enough for you?

Then the Mugen Power 3200mAh Extended Replacement Battery For HTC Hero (GSM) with included Battery Door should be just right for you! First off, this Battery comes with the Battery Door, cause it simply makes your Device thicker. That much more Power of course needs it’s Space, so this Step is neccessary. I’m not 100% sure yet, but i’m used to bulky Devices, so i’d be happy to have a bit more Phone for the Price of getting a lot more Battery Life – which you DO get, judging from what i’ve read so far! I won’t spoil no Results yet, but the Improvement should be big!

I’m REALLY looking forward to test those Batteries in my Hero and give you some first Hand Reports, about how much better the Performance with those Batteries get. A big THANK YOU goes out to Mugen for agreeing on the Test Batteries and in the Meantime, feel free to check out Mugen’s Shop by hitting the Picture down below!

Big Touchscreens, GPS, permanent WLAN/3G Usage for Mails/Gravity etc certainly takes its Toll. In the Case of the N97 with its new Standy Screen Widgets, this Network Usage comes even more into Play – i mean come on, how not funny is it to have Facebook, Twitter etc on the Screen and not updating regularly? How 2005 would that be!? On the Opposite, how much Progress did we get on the Battery Development? Stronger Batteries for more powerfull Devices? None. Absolutely Zero! Nokia was “kind enough” to give us at least the 1500 mAh Battery we know and love from some selected E-Series Devices, but thats pretty much it. Did it last? Not at all. See, i was unplugged the Phone at 3.30 am in the Morning before i flew over to the UK and it lasted till about 4 pm, then the battery was done, and i didn’t even do much except of above mentioned Activities, plus snapping some Pictures /w geotagging. This whole Situation is still a complete Mess and Nokia nor any other Brand doesnt give a Damn about it. So, how can you work against this ongoing Disaster?

We were on the Nokia Party Boat later on the first Day in London, shipping up and down the River Thames to watch some Sights, the Nokia Signpost Arrow and most of all, have a good Time, talking Tech, having Drinks and some really good Food. My Buddy Roman, Owner over at www.s60inside.at.tf, suddenly grabbed something out of his Pocket, which appeared to be the Turbocharger 3400 from the UK Phone Accessoires Company PROPORTA, with the 3400 being the mAh Capacity this Thing has. After a little Chat about it, it was pretty clear that i have to get a Turbocharger as well. But wait, what does it do? Well simple, its nothing but a small, powerfull Battery Pack, having enough Power to charge my HTC Hero f.e. twice full! I’m currently testing how long i can get through with it on the SE Satio’s 1000 mAh Battery.

The Turbocharger comes equipped with a Ton of different Connectors, making you capable to charge: Nokia Devices, Sony Ericsson Devices, Apple’s iPhone/iPod, even Nintendo DS and to further expand the Possibilites, everything that has a Micro- or Mini-USB Connector like Sat-Nav Devices, Digital Cameras and much more! All you have to do is charge the TC 3400 on your PC/Laptop, which normally takes a few Hours, and then you’re good to go. On Top there are 5 blue LEDs, informing you how much Power is left or if the TC has charged ready. All you have to do is plug it in, hit the small Button next to the LEDs and it starts charging, simple as that. The slim Size of this smart little Helper enable you to take it with you everywhere you go, and giving you much needed Power on the Go, which is just awesome in my humble Opinion. As mentioned above, my Hero Battery normally lasts a full Day, so with 2 more Charges, i can go through a whole Weekend without needing a Power Socket! Since the Satio has a less powerfull Battery, but even more Standby/Work Time than the Hero, i should be able to get even more out of it!

Coming back Home from London, one of the first Things was looking up for the Turbocharger and Hats off to Proporta, this Thing is not even super expensive. € 32.95 for 3400 mAh is something i happily spend my Money on, the “World” Package which comes with incl. Power Plugs and Car Connectors is currently only 7 Euro more expensive. I think this Price is more than reasonable and suitable for every Pocket, if we look how long you can go with this Thing. The Turbocharger is definitely something i recommend to everyone who is as passionate as Phone Fan as i am, its a good Helper for small Money!

I’m also very happy to announce that i’m taking Part in Proporta’s Affiliates Program, which means that you will be able to buy Goodies from Proporta directly over my Blog. I think supporting good Helpers for the Phones we all love and care about is a good Thing, and since Proporta have really helped to make my Phone Life a bit easier, why shouldnt this get supported? Watch this Space for the Goodies soon
